While completing Ba1b, there has been many positives that have helped me learn and reassure myself on certain skills.
The first positive was taking part in the editorials for the magazine project. While we had to fit our editorials with the message of our magazine, we were allowed free rein to pick whatever we wanted in our images that we used. I really enjoyed helping Ethan with shooting Eden and Ria’s editorials. I enjoyed coming up with ideas while on shoot to help them achieve the message of their editorials. For example, Eden’s editorial was about how she feels disconnected to her guitar, something that she is very passionate about. I had an idea to have her run with her guitar, inspired by a picture of Troye Sivan for his single “Got me Started”. Having Eden run with her guitar was showing that she feels like she is disconnected from her love for her guitar but it will always be with her. After seeing the final product of that image, I was extremely proud of how it turned out.
My favourite part of BA1b was the magazine project. I am extremely happy with how our magazine turned out and I loved the process of making it and seeing it come together. I really enjoyed being able to do my film article as I have always loved Films and TV shows. Being able to write about something I’m passionate about, as well as fashion was really refreshing and freeing. Furthermore, I decided to make a word search for a page break in the magazine. The process of making this taught me some new skills on Indesign and Photoshop which, will definitely come in handy as I continue with FCP. I feel like I have improved a lot using Indesign and Adobe Illustrator and Im excited to further my skills using those softwares.
While there has been many positives, there has also been negatives.
The first Negative would be certain elements of the Marketing report. I have definitely learnt that I prefer FCP to FMB. I enjoyed researching Weekday however, I found myself getting lost and confused with the PEST analysis and competitor comparisons. Therefore, I definitely struggled with completing the Marketing report.
The Magazine project taught me a lot. Considering we were all new to completing a group project, I personally think that we worked very well together. However, there were times where I felt that we were compromising too much, and letting really good ideas go to waste, as we were on a time limit in our meetings. While I am happy with the outcome of the magazine, I think there was more we could have done. There was also some problems with miscommunication. Sometimes, decisions were made away from the group and not told elsewhere which, led to some confusion.
Overall, I have really enjoyed completing BA1b. I feel like I have learnt a lot about the industry and I’ve learnt lots of really useful skills. I also felt like everything feels less new to me, which allowed me to enjoy myself more.
