PERSONAL SWOT ANALYSIS OF MYSELF DURING THE DURATION OF BA1b
STRENGTHS
My first strength would be that I am a good listener. I found that in the magazine project I would make sure everyone was listened to and heard. This helped everyone to be involved and do the role that they wanted to in the magazine. It also gave people more opportunities.
My next strength is that I am good at problem solving. I often find that when a. problem arises, I am good at quickly coming up with a few solutions to either help myself or my peers out.
My last strength is that I have a passion for researching references and pieces of media, especially in the fashion Industry. If I see something I like that matches with my taste like an editorial for example, I will always save it somewhere. Having this bank of ideas helps me come up with visions for projects.
WEAKNESSES
My first weakness is that I feel like I have forgotten how to use important softwares like photoshop for example. This makes the process of completing tasks harder for me and often stresses me out. While I am making a conscious effort to refresh my memory and learn new skills, I still feel unconfident and think it is a big weakness of mine.
My next weakness is that I struggle with writing blogs. While I love writing, I still don’t feel like I have found my tone of voice yet. I think this shows up in my blogs as they can be quite formal.
OPPORTUNITIES
First would be my previous experience with photography. While it took me a second to remind myself on all the small details. It never felt like a completely new world. I also feel like as I have previous experience using cameras from doing Photography GCSE and A Level Film studies, it meant that I could focus more on the image itself. Less time was spent on stressing about the camera, which meant I could focus on directing the model and perfecting the details. This made shoots so much more productive and efficient. It also meant that I was more likely to like the finished product.
While I have found it quite difficult to find my tone of voice when writing my blogs, I feel very familiar with writing bodies of writing. This is because I have done a lot of essay based subjects in the past. Now that I don’t have to write about sociological theories or literature, I’m finding that writing can be fun. I can start a paragraph, and have the opportunity to make it whatever I want it to be instead of using a strict structure. I have also discovered that blogs can be a reflective journal of yourself. It has been nice to look back and reflect on first year, and see how far I have come. It helps me to process what I just learnt, in order to learn more.
THREATS
A big threat for me while completing BA1b has been that I don’t know much about graphic design. I would like to improve my skills in graphic design as it will massively help me out in the future and in my course. I am trying to improve my skills in Adobe Illustration, but I would love to do extra research and practise more. This was especially a threat for me because it affected my Portfolio. I didn’t feel very confident showing it as I feel like my skills aren’t properly there yet.
