What does a visual merchandiser do ?

A Visual Merchandiser is responsible for promoting and advertising a brand, through visual communication methods. These include two main roles. First is how the shop is designed and how it looks visually. This includes doing window displays, shop floor design and product placement. The second main role is making sure that the customer experience is up to its standards. This involves, customer service and what the shopping experience is like for the customers. Being a Visual Merchandiser is an extremely essential and important role in the industry, as it elevates brand experience, making customers want to return back to the shop.

Personally, when I think of a visual merchandiser, I think of the famous department store Selfridges. Selfridges is well known for housing luxury brands, and being at the top of their game in customer service. But they are even more well known for their window displays. Excited crowds gather round every Christmas, to see the reveal of their next display. This is extremely beneficial for the brand, as it attracts customers to the shop and invites them to go into the shop and look around. This is all thanks to the Visual Merchandiser.
